Some neighbors have evacuated, lost work, or are facing unexpected expenses as a result of the Timber Fire. Others have stayed behind to defend their homes and help protect our community.

This is why CABS exists. We provide direct, rapid financial assistance to Big Sur neighbors when they need it most—without red tape or weeks of waiting.

Your donation helps us get immediate relief into the hands of those most financially impacted by the Timber Fire.

Our Mission

Our shared mission is to protect and defend the rural and residential character, and to preserve the natural and aesthetic beauty of the Big Sur coast; to provide for the health, safety, and welfare of the Big Sur Community; to encourage community service and otherwise act in the interests of the residents and property owners of Big Sur.

CABS Cares for Big Sur Through 3 Main Objectives:

Community Connection & Advocacy

CABS connects Big Sur residents and local, regional, and state decision-makers. We facilitate conversations, share timely information, and advocate for policies that reflect the community’s needs and values.

Resilience

CABS strengthens Big Sur’s ability to adapt to, prepare for, and recover from disasters. From direct relief and emergency coordination, to long-term planning, we help the community to withstand wildfires, landslides, road closures, and other changing conditions.

Visitor Education & Shared Stewardship

CABS promotes responsible recreation through education, data, and collaboration. We support visitors while advocating for sustainable visitation policies that protect Big Sur’s environment and quality of life.

Featured CABS Program

Fire Adapted Big Sur

FABS empowers residents to work together to create safer, more wildfire-resilient neighborhoods. By collaborating with neighborhood associations, fire departments, and civic organizations, FABS aims to minimize the risk of loss to life, property, and the environment. Visit Fire Adapted Big Sur to learn more about actions you can take to live safely with wildfire.

Traffic Counter Data

CABS has installed Big Sur’s first-ever permanent traffic counter on Highway 1, providing real-time data on vehicle volumes for the first time in decades. This tool helps our community, planners, and visitors better understand traffic patterns and supports informed decision-making.
